International Yoga Championship Logo Design Concept “The End Is Beginning”
As a professional Graphics Designer, I often supercharge my creative juices by launching a personal brainstorming activity, which yields, sometimes hundreds of ideas. The process of creating the International Yoga Championship (IYC) Logo was very much the same. My initial thoughts went to the elegant and advanced poses of Yogi masters. These included postures like the Mayurasana (Peacock Pose) , Astavakrasana (Eight-Angle Pose) , and others. As I thought through the intent of the design further, I returned back to my design concept, to one of the more basic nature.
The IYC logo I ultimately came up with is a combination of two elements. The first is a basic seated posture. I chose the seated posture to be the main concept of the logo as it applies to all levels of interest, from novice to advanced. Whether you want to practice meditation or asana, the seated posture is the one of the key postures you must perfect. The seated posture is also the posture each session starts and finishes in. Thus, capturing a broader element in the practice of yoga.
As the second element in the IYC logo, I chose the Earth. I like the Earth, as it symbolizes a relationship of itself within the universe. Like the connection of body, mind and soul, the Earth is connected in the universe in silence, calmness and harmony. The Earth is always in motion, harmonizing with the Universe to greet the sunrise. In turn, creating a feeling of peaceful energy in this journey of life.
I wanted the color of the logo to represent the sky, as viewed from our Earthbound vantage point, with its’ variations of blue tones. I also wanted to capture the blue tones that are view from an outer space perspective. To accomplish this, I chose to incorporate a multi-level arrangement of blue colors. The choice of colors in the IYC logo also represents peace, harmony and strength of base.
My key expression in the design concept is “The End Is Beginning” as we are united in participation in the International Yoga Championship in the beginning. As well, we’ve prepared for the event for a long time and will work until the end of the competition. Once we reach the end of the International Yoga Championship it will also be a beginning with a newly gained outlook on yoga and life as a result. Through this competition, we will grow to appreciate the realm of yoga more. So let’s all return to the basics and return to the origin, which is an expression in the design of the logo. Finally, the logo is not meant to portrait a conquering of the Earth, but rather, to conquer the materialistic attitude and to conquer the ego in ourselves and all bad emotions settling into peace, stability and calmness.
